Trouble in Paradise

Most bulbs are rarely bothered by insects or diseases, and heirloom bulbs are especially tough. (That’s how they’ve survived so long.) The best way to help yours stay healthy is simply to give them what they need to thrive, starting with the right hardiness zone, sun, soil, moisture, nutrients, and good air circulation.

But no garden can be completely trouble-free, so here are links to help you control some of the most common insects and diseases your bulbs might encounter.

daffodil bulb fly

red lily leaf beetle (which also attacks Fritillaria)

iris borer

iris leaf spot and root rot

gladiolus thrips

canna leaf-roller.
