Paulus Potter was born in the Netherlands in 1625. In his short lifetime (he died of tuberculosis at the age of 28) he became an innovative and influential artist. Potter had an affinity for animals and specialized in countryside scenes and portraits of farm animals. In the 1800s, his life-size “The Young Bull” was as popular as Rembrandt’s “Night Watch.”
